Terminally ill, small-time criminal, estranged from bi-polar wife who is sleeping with his brother, trying to bring up two children on his own - difficult to imagine anything else which could go wrong for Javier Bardem.
The city of Barcelona is an important character in the film, but not the Barcelona of the tourist brochures. This is the Barcelona of back streets, of immigrants and of poverty, and is far from being 'Biutiful'.
